Beautiful Light
The sun has been there all along, but we keep just seeing clouds and haze. Winter is upon us and this year seems to be a time of dreaming about spring and the beautiful sunlight it brings. The wind is blowing and the plants are leaning toward the south because of the north wind. We love spring and we love to see a snow in winter, but this year the snow has been here deeply and long. People who live where there is no snow would love to enjoy some of this we have had. The people who have snow every year are all probably ready to see it leave as are we who usually have at least one big snow and then it melts and we have rain and a few flurries of snow.
When we can’t have much sunlight or we have it and it is still cold outside, we can come inside and enjoy our beautiful lamps. We like to light the candle lamps and enjoy the scent of the candles we have placed there. We enjoy now more than ever the beautiful lights we have placed around the house. We can’t change the weather, but we can turn on the light that we like inside the home. Just enjoy it and look forward to spring. What a happy thought!
Useful and Fun
What fun it is to choose a new item for a room. Especially when you just get your first apartment at college and you get to choose at least one new thing to use. What will it be? There are so many things that you need. First you need a microwave because you have to eat and that is the fast way to fix something when you are in a hurry. But you have the microwave that your sister used and it is still in good shape. You wonder if she ever used it? Then you might need a new set of sheets, but the ones you have fit the bed and they are still good.
Hey! This is it! You need a new lamp for your bedroom, because you will be reading your homework assignments there. It needs to be good and pretty and fun. How about the money your aunt gave you? It is quite a lot, but you need a really good lamp. It will be a lamp that will lift your spirits and serve its purpose, and maybe, just maybe, be unique. Okay, get on the internet and find just the right one. It will be so much fun when it arrives at your door.
Time Passes
Ten o’clock already? It just couldn’t be. I got up late, but only an hour late. Two hours have passed. Where was I? Well, I guess I must have been having fun. They say ,”Time passes quickly when you are having fun.” It is just that I can’t remember eating breakfast, cleaning the kitchen, and putting in laundry as being all that fun. Well, where do we go from here? Let’s get out the list and see what else has to be done. I remember my husband mentioned a ball game on TV at 2:30. I”ll wind this desk clock that keeps getting slow and maybe I will watch the time better now. It is more fun to watch the time when there is a fun way to do it. There is a cute little battery-operated clock that I keep by me when something has to be done early. There are electric clocks all over the house. We all have wrist watches and the time is on all of the cell phones. However, when the subject of time comes up, I remember my grandparents old grandfather’s clock. There are now many replicas of those old clocks and they all are pretty to me. There is a decorative wall clock that I saw recently in a catalog that took me back in time. I guess it had the Roman Numerals like my grandparents’ clock. Anyway, I had better get busy. I can dream about those clock while I work. Don’t be late!
Time Change
Recently we changed back to Standard Time - Eastern, Central, Mountain, or Pacific. It is very upsetting to some people. Some of us old-timers would like for things to just stay the way they were in “the good old days.” Some of us just change the clocks and in a couple of days we are used to the new time. The thing that bothers me most is the darkness coming earlier in the evening. However, in a few days, I will be used to it and won’t think a thing about it. What I like about changing back to standard is the extra hour of sleep I get on the “change day.”
Sometimes the clocks are easy to change, and sometimes they are not. I like the ones that change automatically, but I think we have only one of those. It is more fun changing a decorative clock
, unless it is a difficult one. A small clock that we have has to have a go with a screwdriver. That one still has not been changed. Anyway, time change is a fact that we all have to live with unless you live in a state that has decided not to bother with it. By the way, if you are going to one of those states for an appointment, be sure you are on their time! Just grin and bear it if you don’t like the change. If you do, just keep on being happy!
Storms
This time of year we seem to have quite a few storms across the country. The winds blow, the rain falls, there is thunder, lightening, snow, and the electricity goes out. Then we go to look for the candles or the flashlights. That is when we are glad we have that candle lamp
we bought a short time ago. When we light the candle in its beautiful holder, it helps take away the feeling of being caught in a storm. If we have used a scented candle, there is something else to enjoy while we are using the lamp.
In the place where you put your candles for emergency lighting, be sure to keep the type you want in your candle lamp. Using it helps to take away the feeling of being in a storm. When a storm comes, even before the electricity goes off, it may be that lighting your candle lamp will take away that “stormy feeling” and make the time a time of enjoyment whether or not the electricity toes off. Happy times!
Watching the Time
My grandparents had a big clock than hung on the wall and loudly announced each hour and half hour. I loved that clock and am not sure what happened to it. It still lives in my memory and, although it never awakens me any more, it will be there announcing a new hour. Now I just think of that old clock as I look at the new ones and wonder what special memories they will awaken in those who own them.
It is interesting to ponder the use of clocks. When we see one that looks sleek and modern, we think of a desk with a busy accountant or secretary checking to see how much time is left before their work is due in a meeting. Then we see a useful timepiece and wonder if some cook watches to see if the cake is almost done. Maybe the farmer is awakened about 5 A.M. by his loud alarm clock and knows he has to get up and start the days chores. We must face it. Time passes and we live by the clock. Oh, well. If it were not for that we probably would not enjoy our vacations so much.
